JAMES RIVER DISTRICT – The end of theregular season has arrived and the football playoff match-ups have been set. The James River District has a big presence in the upcoming 2A and 1A East VHSL Playoffs.

Leading the way is the JRD Champion Goochland Bulldogs who will be hosting Washington and Lee this Friday night at home. Goochland is the #2 seed and are the favorites along with Stuarts Draft to reach the 2A Finals.

Also in the 2A Playoffs are Nottoway, Prince Edward and Bluestone.  The Nottoway Cougars have the toughest path to the next round as they take on the top team and travel to Stuarts Draft. Prince Edward put together a strong season this year and finish as the #13 seed, but did suffer a tough final game loss to Buckingham and have to go on the road to East Rockingham. The Eagles will need their offense and especially their passing attack to carry them in this game.

The Bluestone Barons also put together a good season and will travel to Central-Woodstock as the #12 seed. Bluestone has the athletes to give defenses problems, but will need their defense to play well if they have a chance to move forward.

In the 1A East playoffs, the Central Chargers moved into the fourth position and that means they got a first round bye. The Chargers will likely host Altavista in the second round of the playoffs. Central lost to Altavista early in the season, but two of the key components in the CHS offense were not available in that game and the playoff game is at home this time. Look for a complete breakdown of the match-up along with coverage from the other teams next week in The Southside Messenger.
