The regular season is over for local basketball teams and Conference tournaments have begun for some as others wait for a return to school in order to kick off their brackets.

CHS BasketballIn the 1A division, Central of Lunenburg and Cumberland both had to wait for the weather to break in order for a return to the hardwood this week. They will both be playing late Wednesday so look for results next week.

In the meantime, the brackets look like this. For the Central Chargers, the boys will be hosting Carver on Wednesday night with the Chargers being favored in this contest. If Central advances, they would take on the winner of second seeded Mathews, who is favored to beat seventh seeded King and Queen. If the favorites win, Central would then travel to Mathews on Thursday night.

For the Cumberland boys, they are the 4 seed and will take on 5 seed West Point in the first round of the Conference Tourney. If they win, Cumberland likely will have to travel to top seeded Middlesex in the second round.

For the Girl’s bracket, Central will be on the road late Wednesday night as the sixth seed Chargers will play at Middlesex. If they win they will then have to play the winner of West Point (2 seed) and King and Queen (7 seed).

Cumberland will be hosting Charles City in a four verses five match-up and the winner of that contest will have to travel to the top seeded Mathews team, who has a bye in the first round.

Look for updates on the Conference 42 Tournament next week.
