P--CHS Baseball 1The Central Chargers baseball team would leave bases loaded  three times during a 4-3 loss to defending state champs, William Campbell.

CHS Baseball 2The Chargers got off to a good start as Ethan Hoover took the mound and got a strikeout and groundout to strand a lead off runner and keep the score 0-0.

Nate Nowlin would walk to lead off the bottom of the first inning and steal second. He scored on a Jeffrey Goodwin single, but with bases loaded, William Campbell would get a double play to keep Central to just one run.

The game would stay the same through the next few innings as defense and pitching was good for both teams. Central would add two more runs in the fourth inning as Chris Fowler walked, Christian Hall walked and Ethan Hoover  singled home Fowler. Hall would score on a sacrifice fly from Riley Hart and the Chargers held a 3-0 lead.

William Campbell would strike back in the top of the fifth as a walk and a 2 run homer from Parker Mason would make the score 3-2. The Chargers would give up the tying run after a pair of errors.

With the game tied at 3-3, Goodwin would come on to pitch for Central and worked a one, two, three inning with a pop up and grounder to shortstop helping keeping the Generals off the board.

Central looked like they may break the came open in the bottom of the sixth as Hall, Hoover and Hart would all walk to load the bases with one out, but the Chargers couldn’t get the hit they needed to break the game open and the score remained 3-3. In the top of the seventh a lead off double  and a sacrifice fly would score one run for WC and give them the 4-3 lead. Central would not be able to pull off another upset and fell by one run.

The Chargers currently remain on top of Conference 42 above Charles City (2) and Cumberland (3) early on in the season.
