The Charlotte county Sheriff’s office had to make a tough call Thursday, October 23rd. A bomb threat was discovered at Central Middle School, scribbled on a toilet paper dispenser in one of the bathrooms. According to sources, the scribbled message alluded that “no one should be in the Middle School at 11:30 on Friday.” Law enforcement officers made a preliminary check of the premises, which revealed nothing of concern to them and they cleared the area with a go ahead for the Taste of Charlotte festivities which were held Thursday evening in the gym and auditorium. Afterwards, they made a more intensive search of the school, and conducted backpack searches on students on Friday morning. Neither search revealed anything suspicious. Nevertheless, there was a run of rumor on different social media sites afterwards, posting messages that a bomb was found, as well as other similar, disruptive rumors. The Sheriff’s office is continuing to investigate the social media comments. There has been some speculation, however, that the bomb threat affected the attendance at the Taste of Charlotte function.
