VICTORIA – The Kindness Matters Club at Central High School was started last year as a proactive organization to help in the battle against bullying. The idea behind the club is to promote kindness and give out kind words to peers instead of downgrading or bullying them.

With the founder of this club, Callie Kunath, now graduated from Central, others have picked up the message, moved the club forward and helped create an atmosphere in the school to promote this group.

The Kindness Matters Club members met this month and discussed projects for the remainder of this year. The members also created 600 “kindness” post-it quotes and the group placed them around the school, including on bulletin boards in the hallways.

The group noted that their challenge for students was “to forgive someone that might have been making you angry.”

They promoted the idea that “Sometimes it is better to be kind than to be right. We do not need an intelligent mind that speaks, but a heart that listens.” Kindness matters!
