VICTORIA – Victoria Police Officials continue an investigation of a shooting incident that took place recently on 12-10-15 in Victoria. Victoria Police Chief Keith Phillips noted that the investigation has led to interviews with several individuals of interest, but no arrest has been made as the department continues work on the case.

Victoria Police Chief Keith Phillips received several calls around 9:30 p.m. on the original Thursday night of the incident for apparent gunshots being heard in the vicinity of Main Street in Victoria. Chief Phillips was able to ascertain that the shots heard came from an area around the intersection of 6th Street and Firehouse Road in the area close to the entrance to the Victoria Railroad Park.

The initial investigation found an abandoned silver four-door sedan several streets from the location of the shots. The car had been abandoned by the driver, but it had bullet holes and evidence related to the shooting. The officers were able to run the plates and find out the vehicle owner, but that individual was not involved or operating the car when the shooting took place.

From there Chief Phillips and Officer Daniel Medlin continued the initial investigation that uncovered the identities of the driver and passengers who were in the car when the vehicle was shot. The car was struck approximately six times, including a bullet that exited through the driver’s side window, narrowly missing the driver and passengers.

Despite the vehicle being hit several times, there were no injuries during the shooting, but Chief Phillips stated, “This is a very serious incident that could have been tragic.” With the incident having taken place within an area where local businesses are located, the incident becomes even more frightening.

Victoria Police officials did not identify the individuals in the vehicle during the shooting as they continue to investigate and search for the person or persons responsible for shooting at and into the vehicle.

Chief Phillips stated, “We are actively pursuing current leads and also ask any citizens that may have information that would be helpful to us in this case to call in.”
