On Monday, May 25, a Charlotte County Deputy running radar on Hwy. 360 clocked a vehicle running 84 miles per hour in a posted 60 m.p.h. zone. The deputy activated his emergency equipment and proceeded to pursue the vehicle eastward, leaving Charlotte County and entering Prince Edward County. Attempts by the Virginia State Police to stop the vehicle using spike sticks around Meherrin were not successful. The pursuit then went through Lunenburg County and Crewe in Nottoway County where the suspect was stopped by Virginia State Police at the intersection of Hwy. 460 and SR614. The suspect’s car and two police cars received minor damage.
The driver was identified as Tyson Omar Robinson, age 40, from California. He was transported to Centra Southside ER and released without injury into the custody of a Charlotte County Deputy.
Robinson has been charged with eluding, exceeding a posted speed limit of 60 m.p.h. by over 20 m.p.h., and possession of a controlled substance. Virginia State Police charged Robinson with reckless driving, exceeding the posted speed limit by 20 m.p.h. and obstruction of justice in Nottoway County.
Robinson is currently being held in the Charlotte County Jail with no bond pending advisement.
