Bring on the Sunshine!

Thinking

Requires

Opposing Views

Almost every day I hear something that just isn’t true.  Just because I hear something doesn’t mean I believe it. I consider it, research it, meditate on it and make a decision.  The beauty of hearing “disinformation,” misinformation and wrong information is that I am forced to do my homework.

The only way we can grow mentally is to consider beliefs that contradict what we already believe or want to believe.  This is why opposing views and free speech are necessary.

In The Friends of Voltaire, Hall wrote the phrase: “I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it” as an illustration of Voltaire’s beliefs. This quotation – which is sometimes misattributed to Voltaire himself – is often cited to describe the principle of freedom of speech.

Many years later in 1913 lawyer Louis Brandeis penned a metaphorical instance that has become popular. The fame of Brandeis grew when he joined the Supreme Court of the United States in 1916. See further below for details of the 1913 citation.

Brandeis wrote in 1886 a newspaper in Garrett, Indiana, “Sunlight is one of the best disinfectants. The microbes that cause disease do not flourish in strong sunshine. It has also the advantage of being cheap.”

Sunshine also prevents misinformation by showing opposing views.

When we were told last year that according to Science and the medical profession wearing a mask would prevent contracting Covid, I was skeptical.

It didn’t take long to document that the holes in most if not all masks were larger than the virus in the air. I concluded that wearing a mask did about as much to protect me as putting up a fence to keep out mosquitoes.  The fact is masks did not prevent Covid infection as we were told but that wasn’t their purpose. The infection rate of masks v no masks is almost identical.

The purpose of masks was to scare, control and divide the population and they were very effective at that.

Elon Musk

Buys Twitter,

Liberal

Snowflakes Meltdown

The Snowflake Liberals just turned around so fast they must all have whiplash.  When Titter was controlled by their friends and supporters they thought it was great. When Trump was banned from Twitter they thought it was great.  When hundreds of conservatives were banned from Twitter they thought it was great.  When The Babylon Bee was banned from Twitter they thought it was great.

When the story of Hunter Biden’s laptop was excluded from Twitter they thought it was great.  Now that Musk owns Twitter they are all in a twitter.

They are realizing that everything has two sides. They are realizing that what they have been doing for almost two decades could be done to them.

According to Musk, he doesn’t plan on exacting revenge. He has welcomed his opponents to remain on Twitter. The only difference is he will be removing THEIR MONOPOLY.  For the first time their opposition will be heard and they are terrified.

…………………………..

My 6-year-old Grandson just announced he isn’t a boy anymore. I swallowed hard, wiped several beads of sweat from my forehead and said, “So what are you?”  “I am an Elephant,” he said.  “That’s great, would you like a peanut?”

…………………………..

What is Truth?

The issue is simply “Who can we trust to make decisions on misinformation?” Can you name one single person you trust to make decisions on free speech?  I am not talking about making laws regarding free speech. I’m talking about the person who decides “what is truth?”

I can list several dozen people I would trust to attempt to regulate truth based on their character, beliefs and ability.  However, I cannot think of even one I believe could do the job correctly and 100 percent accurately.

The problem with legislating truth either by Government fiat or an algorithm is that it simply cannot be done.

No person, computer or combination of them can absolutely identify TRUTH.

Many things that were considered true for generations have been proven false by some radical thinker who challenged the Status Quo.

Ignaz Philipp

Semmelweis

Fired for Medical Misinformation

I read a book about Ignaz Philipp Semmelweis almost fifty years ago. It made a lasting impression on me.

“Ignaz Philipp Semmelweis was a Hungarian obstetrician who discovered the cause of puerperal or childbed fever (CBF) in 1847 when he was a 29-year-old Chief Resident («first assistant») in the first clinic of the lying-in division of the Vienna General Hospital.”

As a new doctor, Ignaz noticed that the death rate for mothers in the hospital who were being treated by doctors had a five times higher mortality rate than the mothers in the hospital who were being treated by midwives. He also noticed that mothers who delivered their babies at home had a lower death rate from fever than those in the hospital.

This happened at the time when the latest medical “fad” was dissecting cadavers to discover the cause of death and to learn more about anatomy.  As a historical note, “body snatching” was big business and people were even murdered to sell the bodies to doctors.

Ignaz noticed that the doctors were leaving their research to deliver babies and came up with the theory that puerperal fever was being transferred by the doctors to the patients from the cadavers. He suggested a radical solution, that doctors wash their hands and disinfect them BEFORE delivering a baby.

For promoting this medical heresy (misinformation) he was fired, blackballed and ultimately died in an insane asylum.

It took almost a quarter of a century before Louis Pasteur and Joseph Lister completed Ignaz’s work.

The history of medicine is filled with misinformation that was accepted as fact including bloodletting and trephination (drilling holes in the skull to let out evil spirits).

Social media would have blocked those who opposed these practices just as Ignaz Philipp Semmelweis was banned.

Tinker Belle

The fact that I believe something is true doesn’t make it true.  That only worked in Peter Pan with Tinker Belle. Besides, it is truly terrifying to imagine a world where what I believe somehow becomes true and real.

What many of the so-called Woke folks suffer from is Tinker Belle syndrome.  They believe, so it is true. I suspect this mental derangement was caused by the monsters under their beds. If the monsters were real, and all of the other ugly things were real, then ANYTHING CAN BE REAL. No evidence required.

While these mentally deranged people were being attacked by bed monsters the rest of us were believing in Santa, the Easter Bunny and the Tooth Fairy which if handled properly by parents don’t leave permanent scars.

Then, the Woke Folks discovered their bed monster was reborn as “The Orange Man” and then they had complete breakdowns.

Is There a

Solution?

The Messenger regularly receives questions regarding how EMS services are dispatched. The concern is that it often seems that instead of using the nearest service another one is selected.

A recent accident on Ontario Road is an example. Please keep in mind we seldom criticize ANY EMS service. They are doing a difficult job under difficult conditions. Our only question is, would it not be better if the closest units were called regardless of the county lines?

In this case both Keysville Volunteer Fire Department and Charlotte Rescue were much closer and could have responded faster. Victoria was dispatched. Meherrin could have responded faster than Victoria.

Is there some way to coordinate dispatch between the counties so that the closest unit can respond?

Would it not be possible to “tone” two fire departments or EMS and cancel one if another one can arrive faster?

Again we are not complaining. This situation seems to occur often near the county lines especially around Meherrin and just across the Charlotte lines into Prince Edward and Lunenburg near Keysville.

Is there a solution to this issue?
