Prince Edward Senior West Bogese swam impressively in two events at the VHSL state championship on February 21 at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center, bringing home the bronze medal with a third-place finish in the 100 breaststroke, and placing ninth in the 50 freestyle. His time of 1:08.49 in the breaststroke was a personal best, as well as a school record.
Bogese, 17, has been swimming competitively since the age of 8, swimming for the Eagles in grades 9-12. His first trip to states was last year, when he competed as a member of the PECHS relay team.
This is the first time a Prince Edward swimmer has medalled at the state level.
“It felt great to represent the school at states, especially to bring home a medal,” said Bogese, who will be attending the University of Virginia. He is the son of Bruce Bogese and Sallie McMullin of Farmville. Bruce Bogese is the coach of the Eagles Swim Team. “I was proud that he ended his high school swim career with the school record in his favorite stroke,” he said.
