BROOKNEAL – On Sunday, May 8, 2016, Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries Conservation Police Officers Brandon Harris and Edgar Huffman recovered a body in the Staunton River thought to be the fisherman missing since April 30 of this year.
According to Lee Walker with the VDGIF, the discovery was made approximately two and a half miles from the scene where 20-year-old Troy Justice Moore was fishing with Michael Grant and Brian Vaiel near Brookneal. The three men were in a fourteen-foot johnboat that flipped over in the river. Grant and Vaiel managed to swim to shore, but Moore was swept away by the current.
The body was sent to the medical examiner for positive identification.
