Blessed Is the One Who Trusts In the Lord

logo-hevenerOne might ask, “What does the word “trust” mean?”  Some overtones of “trust” include: having confidence in, believing in, and, most importantly, being willing to act on that belief.  You see, if one’s trust in someone or something is too weak to follow with actions, it could hardly be said that he has trust.  All he has in such a case is “fake trust,” “hollow trust.”

If we have hollow trust in our Lord Jesus Christ to save us from sin and eternal death and to give us eternal life, we are lost, indeed.  True trust acts on that belief by following the teachings of our Master in our daily patterns of life.  Jesus said, “If you love me, keep my commandments.”  His followers are to be a spiritual light in this world of sin, darkness, and to be the salt that puts spiritual seasoning in life. We are to “do unto others as we would have them do unto us.”

In whom are we to trust?  The Prophet Jeremiah writes this for our instruction: “But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in Him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.” (Jeremiah 17: 7, 8.)

Augustine gave his observations on true faith: “Understanding is the reward of faith. Therefore seek not to understand that you may believe, but believe that you may understand.”  Trusting in our Creator to always do the best for us, long term, is the avenue to peace, happiness, contentment, understanding, wisdom, and eternal life with our Master.  Faith is revealed when human reason and power reach a dead end.

The apostle James writes that “faith without works is dead.” (James 2:20.)  James is simply saying that actions will follow true faith; however, hollow faith is dead words.  Solomon advises: “Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and He will establish your plans.” (Proverbs 16:3.)  The poet David tells us his secret to finding peace and God-appointed success in life: “When I am afraid, I put my trust in You (God). (Psalm 56:3.) Again, David writes: “I will say to the Lord, He is my Refuge and my Fortress, my God in Whom I trust.) (Psalm 9: 1,2.)  In Psalm 91, the poet writes: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.”

Remember, “Faith honors God, and God honors faith,” true faith, not hollow faith.

George Muller wrote: “Faith does not operate in the realm of the possible. There is no glory to God in that which is humanly possible. Faith begins where man’s power ends.”

In conclusion, I invite you to trust your life to the Lord; follow Him, and honor Him by obeying Him. Put your full faith in your Creator and Redeemer, the risen Jesus Christ, the Source of life!

Until next week, may God richly bless you and yours.
