Big Second Half Sends Central Past Bluestone

MECKLENBUG – The Central Chargers football team continues their playoff push as they traveled to Bluestone last Friday night. The Chargers would get off to a sluggish start, but came out of halftime to score four touchdowns and cruise to a 40-12 victory.

The Chargers would open the scoring In their opening drive as they moved the ball down the field and picked a 3-yard QB sneak by Josh Paynter for the score. Ben Atkins added the kick and Central led 7-0.

Bluestone would drive down the field and get in scoring position during their first offensive series, but Raymond Alexander blocked a 30-yard field goal attempt to keep them off the board.

Central would go up 14-0 late in the second quarter as Malik Foster scored from one yard away after accounting for 41 yards on the drive. Bluestone would answer before halftime and Central led 14-6 as the teams went to the locker rooms.

Central’s offense got rolling early in the second half as Keaun Baskerville raced into the end zone from 80 yards out to give Central a 20-6 lead.

Ben Spencer would recover a muffed handoff by Bluestone and Central got on the board again as Baskerville scored from 11 yards away.

Central would go up 34-6 at the start of the fourth quarter when Dashawn Moore took a hand off from Josh Paynter and scored from 5 yards away. Central added another late score as Daveyon Rainey got into the end zone from 21 yards away to make the final score 40-12.

The Chargers have a big game this Friday night as they host Goochland at 7:00 p.m.
