AMELIA -The Central Chargers had a huge game last Friday at Amelia and got a record setting performance from senior running back Keaun Baskerville to help them get a 48-14 win.

After taking over their first offensive possession deep in their own territory, Baskerville would get good blocking and race 85 yards in for a touchdown run that put Central up 7-0 and set the pace for him claiming the single game rushing record for the Chargers. He would end the night with 352 yards on 29 carries to break the old mark of 305 yards set by Dajour Smith.

Central would get another rushing touchdown from Dashawn Moore on their second offensive series and after an Amelia drive that ended with them fumbling the ball away on the two yard line, Baskerville raced 98 yards for a TD. Ben Atkins added his third extra point and Central led 21-0 early in the game.

The Chargers D would stop Amelia on the next series as John McGrath picked off a pass and then Josh Paynter found Brandon Scott on a Central touchdown pass that put the Chargers up 28-0 in the first quarter.

By the time halftime rolled around the game was over as Central added two more scores, including a Paynter TD pass to Raymond Alexander for a 42-7 halftime lead.

Central would “call of the dogs” in the second half after another Moore touchdown run and the Chargers cruised to a 48-14 win.

Coach Will Thomas said that he was thrilled with the effort and performance by his team at Amelia. He would note that the team had suffered quite a few injuries this year that had reduced their depth. He also praised Baskerville and the offensive line for setting the tone early in the game.

Central finishes the regular season with a home game this Friday against Cumberland.
