Annie Sue Ragsdale Taylor quietly departed this life on Friday, February 17, 2017 at her home. She was born December 27, 1937 to the late Sidney M. and Laura Taylor Ragsdale. Sue was educated in the Lunenburg County Public Schools and at an early age joined the Friendship Baptist Church.

On May 16, 1964 she was joined in Holy Matrimony to the late Henry L. Taylor, Sr. This union was blessed with two children, Sharon and Henry, Jr. Sue cherished the relationship she had with her “special nephew,” Nelvin, whom she thought of as her own. She was the “neighborhood Mom” for all the children especially those on 4th Avenue and loved each of them. Sue had an enormous heart for helping and sharing with everyone she met and knew.

As a member of Friendship Baptist Church she served as treasurer of the Flower Committee and Sunday School, and was also a member of the Hospitality Committee. She was a former member of the Food Committee and satisfied the appetites of many. The demand for her ham biscuits, pies and rolls kept her busy in the kitchen.

Sue had outstanding work ethics. She was employed by Scovill Corporation in Victoria, Virginia until they closed. For over 56 years she worked as a domestic engineer for the George B. Clarke, Sr. family. She also worked for Margaret Johnson, Curtis and Irene Neal, and Bruce Seamster families until her health failed. She enjoyed reading, watching antique road shows and basketball games on Saturday evenings.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents, and siblings: Rejean, Thomas, Richard and Virginia, and husband, Henry L. Taylor, Sr.

She leaves to cherish loving memories: Sharon Taylor (Larry) Jennings of the home, Henry L. Taylor, Jr., of Norfolk, Virginia, and Nelvin Ransome (nephew) of Beltsville, Maryland; four grandchildren: Shannon, Brandon, Marjureka and Akiyah; two great grandchildren: Timothy III, and Zha’Ky; one brother, Sterling Ragsdale (Connie) of Washington, DC; one sister-in-law, Bessie Ragsdale of Blackstone, Virginia; one brother-in-law, Edward M. Wilson of Kenbridge, Virginia; special great nephew, Richard Smith III; other nephews, nieces, special cousins, Alvin Reavis, Sr., Arnita Reavis, other cousins and friends. Sue will be solely missed, but cherished memories remain with us.

Funeral services were held Friday, February 24, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Friendship Baptist Church, 6351 South Hill Road, Kenbridge, Virginia 23944; Reverend Elmus Morgan, Pastor.
