Amelia Senior’s Death Felt Around Southside

Amelia SeniorAMELIA -As students returned to school on Tuesday, a tragedy in Amelia County touched not only people and students in that area, but all across Southside Virginia. Hannah Green, a 17-year-old Amelia High School senior, who was known for her love of softball and was planning to attend Longwood University following graduation, died as the result of a gunshot wound.

Amelia Sheriff’s Deputies received a call that a female had a gunshot wound to her stomach on Saturday.

The call came in around 11:37 p.m. and the officers responded to Moorefield Meadows subdivision, where they found the girl in a storage building on a residential property.

Green was transported to Chippenham Hospital and died later from her injuries.

According to reports, she was conscious and able to talk to the deputies when they arrived.

Investigators initially did not release information on what their investigation had revealed, but on Tuesday the incident was ruled suicide by a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the abdomen, according to the Medical Examiner’s Office.

Green also reportedly attended Southside Virginia Governor’s School and played softball with students in many area counties.
