CHARLOTTE COURT HOUSE – In the regular Charlotte County Board of Supervisors Meeting, the board unanimously approved awarding an $11,486,000.00 contract for the new courthouse to Blair Construction of Gretna. This brings the total cost to 13.9 million dollars.
Following a recess, a public hearing was held on the courthouse project. A proposal was presented following advice by Landscape Architects Warren Byrd and his wife Susan Nelson who donated their expertise to make recommendations that included some changes from the previously awarded contract.
The recommendations included moving the building an additional 20 feet back, changing the alignment, redesigning the connection between the courthouse and the Clerk’s Office and adding some handicapped parking spaces.
The issue of the driveway remains in question.
The board again unanimously approved a motion to address these amendments as possible change orders to the previously awarded contract.
P.K Pettus and Kathy Liston addressed the board in the public comment session. Following months of disagreeing with the board both indicated the potential change orders while “not what they wanted” are “something they can live with.”
