Algeier, Sandridge Compete in Class 2 Region A Tennis Tourney

IMG_4639 (1) IMG_9934CHARLOTTE C.H. – Randolph-Henry’s girls tennis varsity #1 doubles team competed in the Class 2 Region A tournament Memorial Day hosted by Goochland High School.  The tournament featured all #1 seed doubles teams in the region with the winner advancing to compete at the state tournament to be held at VA Tech next weekend.  Freshman Grace Algeier and Senior Annie Sandridge represented Randolph-Henry as they faced Brunswick’s Genesis Martinez / Shadimon Harrison.  Algeier / Sandridge won the match 6-0, 6-0, advanced to the  semifinals then defeated Bruton High School’s Olivia Garcia / Alexa Woolson 6-4, 6-1.  The victory over Bruton High school advanced Algeier / Sandridge  to the championship match.  Maggie Walker Governor’s School Anna Soffin / Narmin Rashid defeated Algeier / Sandridge and advanced to the state tournament.

On Tuesday, May 29, Algeier represented Randolph-Henry in the singles #1 seed Regional tournament.  Algeier was the the only Freshman competing in the tournament of seniors.  Algeier advanced to the semifinals after defeating Bruton’s Helen McCarthy 7-5, 6-4.  Algeier then faced Poquoson’s Christina Zalamenda but did not advance to the finals.  Zalamenda was defeated by three time state champion Anna Soffin, Maggie Walker Governor’s School, in the final match.
