CONALYNCHBURG – Alexa Moore, a junior at Randolph-Henry High School in Charlotte Court House, has been selected to attend the YMCA Conference on National Affairs this summer. Moore was selected as one of 21 students to represent the Commonwealth from over 550 students at the Virginia YMCA Model General Assembly in March. Virginia will be represented by students from various regions of the Commonwealth including Roanoke, Farmville, Richmond, Hampton, the Eastern Shore, and Arlington.

The conference, which will take place June 30-July 7, is held at the YMCA Blue Ridge Assembly in Black Mountain, NC. Over 500 students from nearly 40 states will debate proposals of national and international importance at this week-long conference.

Delegates from Virginia have worked hard since their selection last month. Their pre-conference work included writing two proposals, giving constructive criticism to fellow delegates, writing speeches to explain their proposals, and practicing speeches virtually through webinars.

Moore’s proposal would create a process to alleviate water crises in America.

At the Virginia YMCA Model General Assembly in March, Moore served as a lobbyist in the Courts of Justice Committee. Her tasks included meeting with actual lobbyists, speaking with the Youth Governor, and working with student legislators to convince them of her opinions on legislation.

Moore is the daughter of Raymond and Teresa Moore of Charlotte Court House, Va.
