On Wednesday, November 20 Melvin Gilmore of Charlotte Court House was charged with aggravated sexual battery against a victim less than 13 years old and taking indecent liberties with a minor by a person in a supervisory capacity.

He was accused of molesting a four-year-old boy in 2012. The allegations stated the actions occurred in the restroom of the Early Learning Center in Charlotte Court house where Gilmore worked as an aide.

The case was certified by a Grand Jury in June of this year with the alleged victim (now five years old) testifying via closed circuit television.

Although a jury trial was scheduled, Gilmore waived the right to a jury trial the morning of the hearing. After hearing the testimony, Judge Joel C. Cunningham dismissed the case after stating that both the alleged victim and the accused offered very believable testimony.

The parents of the child expressed concerns that the school system has not been proactive in addressing the issue of child abuse.
