Accidental Shooting Injures A Longwood University Student

On September 15, 2013 at 7:59 pm Farmville Police responded to the 500 block of High Street for a report of an accidental shooting.  Upon arrival police found the victim, a 21 year old female Longwood University student, suffering from a gunshot wound to her leg.  She was transported to Southside Community Hospital and then transported to UVA Medical Center with a non-life threatening injury.  This happened at an off-campus residence occupied by students near Longwood University.

The investigation revealed that another Longwood University student, 21 year old Jacob E. Richardson, was inside a residence with the victim trying to unload the handgun when it accidently discharged.  Richardson called 911 for help and cooperated fully with the investigation.  He was charged with Reckless Handling of a Firearm and released pending a court appearance in Prince Edward County General District Court on September 30, 2013 at 9:00 am.
