FARMVILLE – On Wednesday, September 27 officials with AARP presented the Farmville Area Habitat for Humanity with a grant for $6,000. The grant from AARP was part of the organization’s first ever Community Challenge.

According to Sam Rabon, Community Outreach Director with Farmville Area Habitat for Humanity, there were almost 1200 applications and the Farmville branch was one of 89 localities chosen and the only one in Virginia.

Funding will support a mobile repair trailer for storing and transporting tools — including a pressure washer, ladders, hand tools and paint supplies —for making safety improvements to homes that, in many cases, have been in families for generations and are in need of significant repairs.

“The grant will be used to fund a mobile repair trailer which will primarily be used to service our A Brush With Kindness program in Charlotte County,” added Rabon.
