A Season of Opportunity

Dear Editor,

Fall has arrived.  This time of year brings special moments- a campfire with friends in the backyard, children raking piles of leaves to jump into, homemade pie with apples picked from a local orchard.

Thinking of these moments, what does home mean to you?

For many, home means a safe, secure, and stable foundation, a place of refuge and rest.  For 30 years, Piedmont Habitat for Humanity has been known primarily for affordable homeownership opportunities- working with a family to build a home from the ground up. Through this program, many of our neighbors have built their own places of rest and opened the door into a new chapter of opportunity for their family.

But what about those who already own their home?

It is difficult to find rest when you are worried about a leaking roof or a collapsing porch or windows that can’t keep the cold air out.  Yet, there are so many in our community who are faced with these challenges.  Recently, we expanded our affordable repairs program to serve families in Buckingham, Charlotte, Cumberland, Nelson, Nottoway, and Prince Edward.  This program helps homeowners who need minor, exterior repairs to preserve the health, safety, and longevity of their home.
The majority of applicants have been seniors living alone in a home they have owned for many years. Following her repair, one woman sent this sweet note- “We are lucky to have such a wonderful program in our community to assist the elderly.”

Together, we can love our neighbors through shelter.

Currently we have seven repair projects underway and applications continually arriving. In addition, we are working with five families on new builds. The need continues to grow. But, partnered with you, we can offer hope. Would you please consider making a donation today in support of the ongoing mission?

Gifts may be mailed to Piedmont Habitat for Humanity, P.O. Box 816, Farmville, VA 23901.

Thank you for your continuing generosity.

For every family served by Habitat, it is because of donors and volunteers who embrace the vision of a world where everyone has a decent place to live.

You are bringing this vision to life!

With deepest gratitude,

Piedmont Habitat for Humanity
