A First-Ever in R-H History – 2019 Randolph-Henry Girls Varsity Tennis Team Punches Ticket to VHSL 2A State Tournament

r-h girls tennisCHARLOTTE COURT HOUSE – The Randolph-Henry varsity girl’s tennis team had a busy week on the hard court in regional play.  After defeating Bruton High School of Williamsburg last week, they advanced to the regional semifinals.   Having earned home court advantage, the Lady Statesmen hosted Poquoson High School, Wednesday, May 22, winning the match 5-3 while securing their ticket to the Virginia High School League State Tournament.  The 2019 team is the first to earn a 2A State Tournament berth in the history of Randolph-Henry varsity girl’s tennis.   Results of the match were the following:  Grace Algeier def. Kristen Kopczynski 6-0, 6-2.  Cindy Hueng (Poquoson) def Eliza Walker 6-0, 6-2.  Kaley Moon def. Traydon Murakami 6-1, 6-2.  Jessica Washburn (Poquoson) def. McKenzie Sharpe 6-4, 6-1.   Mireya Galacgac (Poquoson) def Pearl Sandridge 7-6 (2), 6-2.  Kiersten Dotton def McKenzie Conners  6-3, 6-2.   In doubles,  Algeier/Moon def Kopczynski/Hueng 6-0, 4-6, 6-4.   Walker/Sharpe def Washburn/Galacgac  6-0, 6-1.    Since the match is played to decision, first team to win five matches win, Sandridge/Dotton did not complete their match but were ahead Murakami/Conners 6-1.

On Friday, the Lady Statesmen hosted the regional championship and fell to Maggie Walker Governor’s  School of Richmond, losing 5-0.

The Lady Statesmen netters will travel to Woodstock, Va. on Friday, May 31 to compete in the Virginia High School 2A State Tournament.    The team has showed tremendous growth this year through hard work and dedication.
