2 Charged in Cumberland Bank Heist

Two Richmond men remain behind bars after being arrested and charged in connection with a bank robbery in Cumberland County on Friday, December 20. Jamieyian J. Liggon, 28, of Richmond and Jaquan L. Robinson, 31, of Richmond are being held without bond at Piedmont Regional Jail in Farmville.

At 9:17 a.m. on Friday, Virginia State Police were called to Central Virginia/C&F Bank in the 2200 block of Cartersville Road in the community of Cartersville. Two men had entered the bank and at gunpoint demanded money from a bank employee. The robbers had also demanded the keys to one of the employee’s vehicles. Then the two left the bank with an undisclosed amount of money.

When the employee’s vehicle failed to start, the men fled the scene on foot. Liggon ran through a nearby field and was spotted by two hunters. The hunters were able to take Liggon into custody without incident and brought him back to the bank where he was turned over to law enforcement.

Meanwhile, Robinson fled into some nearby woods. State and local law enforcement initiated a search that included both tracking canines and a state police helicopter within the area. The suspect was located by law enforcement later in the day, hiding under a recreational vehicle (RV) that was parked at a Cartersville residence. Robinson was taken into custody without incident.

Liggon and Robinson have each been charged with one felony count of robbery, one felony count of conspiracy to commit robbery, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and attempted grand larceny of a vehicle.

State Police Special Agent K.R. George is investigating the possibility of a third male subject having been involved to assist Liggon and Robinson with their escape. Anyone with information about this individual or the bank robbery is asked to please call the Virginia State Police at 434-352-7128.

The stolen money and handgun were recovered by law enforcement.

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, Powhatan County Sheriff’s Office and the Richmond Field Office of the FBI also responded to the scene to assist with the ongoing investigation.
