The Central Middle School Cafeteria was full of good food and fellowship on Thursday, October 23rd as county residents filed into the building to experience the 18th annual “Taste of Charlotte” event.

Guests were able to sample a variety of foods from the vast number of vendors while also participating in the silent auction held in the middle school gym.  There was something for everyone ranging from the delectable desserts to popular pizza and tantalizing tenderloins. According to event chair, Hazel Bowman Smith, turnout for the affair was down from the previous years, which was speculated to be because of a bomb threat received at the school earlier in the afternoon. However, despite the chaos, the event was still well-attended and Bowman would like to offer a special thanks to all who came out and made it a success.

This year, the Taste of Charlotte event raised a total of almost $4,000 and all proceeds will benefit The Charlotte County Relay for Life and The American Cancer Society.  Items and gift certificates for the silent auction were donated by local businesses. Sponsors for the occasion included Charlotte Drug Co., Charlotte Gazette, Cheryl’s Clip and Curl, Cornerstone Insurance, Dodd’s Farm Supply, Kinex Telecom, Mecklenburg Electric Cooperative, Dr. Teresa Moore, The Southside Messenger and Weston’s Grocery
